Bobby Deol

Vijay Singh Deol (Punjabi: ਵਿਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਿੳਲ, Hindi:विजय सिंह देओल, Urdu: وِجے سِںہ دِیول), born 27 January 1967, commonly known as Bobby Deol, is an Indian actor. He was born in Mumbai, India.

When he was 10 years old he made a very brief appearance in the 1977 movie "Dharam Veer" where he played the younger version of his father's (Dharmendra) character.
He made his debut as a leading man at the age of 28 in the year 1995, in director Rajkumar Santoshi's "Barsaat," for which he won a Filmfare Best Debut Award. The movie was a hit, and Bobby was instantly recognized.[1]
The year 1996, didn’t witness any release from him.
In 1997, Bobby Deol starred in his sophomore movie, titled, "Gupt," which went on to become the fifth highest grossing movie of the year. His other movie in 1997, "Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya," which also starred Aishwarya Rai, flopped.[2]
In 1998 he had two releases - "Kareeb" and "Soldier." The former was directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and flopped. The latter was directed by, Abbas and Mustan and went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.[3]
The last year of the 20th century saw Bobby Deol with his older brother, Sunny Deol, together for the first time on the big screen in the latter's directorial debut, Dillagi. The movie didn't click with the masses and left Sunny Deol disappointed.[4]
Bobby started off 2000 with "Badal," which became one of the biggest hits of the year. The movie was directed by Raj Kanwar and also starred actress Rani Mukherjee. "Hum To Mohabbat Karega," followed and flopped badly. Bobby paired up with actress, Rani Mukherjee once again after “Badal,” for the movie "Bichhoo". The movie did average business at the box office.[5]. The business of Badal and Bichhoo was at par with Kaho Na Pyaar Hai in North India and Punjab.
Aashiq”, was his first release of the year 2001. The movie flopped. His only other release of the year “Ajnabee,” which saw him being directed by Abbas and Mustan for the second time, secured sixth position at the year end box office chart.[6]
The year 2002, turned out to be a mixed year for Bobby as his first two flicks of the year, “Kranti” and “23rd March 1931: Shaheed” flopped. In the latter, he played the character of, “Bhagat Singh,” the great freedom fighter of India. The movie also saw him once again with his real life brother, Sunny Deol. After the failure of these two movies, Bobby Deol bagged a hit with “Humraaz,” and also earned himself the “Filmfare Best Actor Award” nomination. The movie was again directed by Abbas and Mustan and turned out to be his only hit of the year as his next movie, David Dhawan’s “Chor Machaye Shor,” flopped.[7]
The year 2003 saw no release of his.
Bobby Deol returned to movies in 2004, which turned out to be the worst year of his career as all his three releases – Kismat, Bardaasht and Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo flopped and saw Bobby on a downslide.[8]
The following year (2005) was not great for him by any means but was still better than 2004. It opened with a flop “Jurm” and his next movie Tango Charlie too flopped in India but it was a massive hit in the USA. The movie earned him mammoth critical acclaim. His other two releases of the year were both with director, Suneel Darshan. They were – “Barsaat” and “Dosti: Friends Forever.” Both the movies did below average business in India but did very good business overseas.[9]
His only release in the year 2006, was "Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai," which wasn’t a proper release as it was a very old movie of his, which had got delayed for release by many years and perhaps didn’t even get few cinemas for release.
April 6, 2007, saw Bobby Deol return to big screen in director Suneel Darshan’s “Shakalaka Boom Boom”. The movie flopped. His second release of the year “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom,” released on June 15, 2007 and it too flopped in India, despite collecting a whopping Rs. 19.62 crores (roughly US$ 4.9 million) in its first week alone in India. The movie did good business in UK where it debuted and peaked at No. 6 on the charts and some other foreign territories. Though the movie flopped but Bobby Deol received enormously praising reviews for his comic acting and eclipsed all the other actors in the movie with his sheer comic skills which had been harnessed very scarcely by the filmmakers in the past. Although, he had a shorter role than, Abhishekh Bachhan, who was the leading actor in the movie, he left a huge impression on the viewers and the critics alike. June 29, 2007, saw the release of “Apne,” in which Bobby Deol co-starred with his father, Dharmendra and older brother Sunny Deol, together for the first time. The movie thrived at the box office not only in India but also in foreign territories. The movie debuted at No. 7 in UK. On July 13, 2007, another movie of Bobby Deol’s, “Naqaab,” released. The movie is directed by Abbas and Mustan. The movie is doing moderate business in India. The movie has debuted at No. 9 on the UK charts

DHARMENDRA DEOL

Dharam Singh Deol (Punjabi:ਧਰਿਮਨਦਰ (ਧਰਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਿਓਲ), Hindi: धर्मॆन्द्र (धर्म सिंह देयोल)) (born 8 December 1935 in Sahnewal, Punjab), better known as Dharmendra, is an Indian Bollywood film star. At the peak of his film career he was considered a matinee idol, and was among the 10 most handsome men in the world at that time. Currently he is a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represents the Bikaner constituency of Rajasthan and is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) political party. He was recently awarded the Lifetime achievement award for his contribution to Hindi cinema.
He rose to fame as an Indian actor who appeared in more than 200 Hindi films since the early 1960s. He married Prakash Deol and later actress Hema Malini. He is the father of actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol from Prakash Deol and father of actress Esha Deol and Ahana Deol from Hema Malini. He is the uncle of actor Abhay Deol.

Acting career:-Dharmendra is the most successful filmstar of Bollywood after Amitabh Bachchan.[2] He has starred in a large number of hit films in Bollywood and is considered a living legend.
Dharmendra was first noticed in a Filmfare spot-the-talent contest and came to Mumbai to become an actor. He was signed by Arjun Hingorani for the film Dil Bhi Tera, Hum Bhi Tere (1960).
At the start of his career he was usually cast as a romantic hero . His first major hit film was Phool Aur Paththar. Dharmendra starred in many comedy films, noted Chupke Chupke, a masterpiece from Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Before Chupke Chupke Dharmendra had worked in Satyakam with Hrisikesh Mukharjee a cult classic and a great piece of cinema again. As action movies became more popular, he took on action hero roles. Perhaps the most memorable of these was his role in the 1975 Sholay, where he was teamed with Amitabh Bachchan.
He has also experimented with film production; he launched both of his sons in films: Sunny Deol in Betaab (1983) and Bobby Deol in Barsaat (1995).
His Latest release is Apne where he appears opposite his sons Sunny and Bobby together for the first time. The movie is recently seen success in box office

Personal life:-Dharmendra married twice. His first marriage was to Prakash Kaur at the age of 19.[1] His second marriage was to the Bollywood actress Hema Malini. They are said to have fallen in love on the sets of Sholay (1975) although they have made many films together before and after Sholay. His two sons by his first wife, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, are also successful actors. He has two daughters, starlet Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, by Hema Malini. His nephew Abhay Deol is also an actor. Dharmendra has gone on record saying he did not believe the Mumbai film industry was a place suitable for girls. Whereas he was unperturbed by his sons Sunny and Bobby joining the industry, he was vocal about his displeasure regarding his daughter Esha's choice of profession. [1]
He has recently become active in politics. He won a position as a Member of Parliament in the 2004 general elections, from Bikaner in Rajasthan, on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. During his election campaign, he made an ironic remark that he should be elected Dictator Perpetuus to teach "basic etiquette that democracy requires" for which he was severely criticized.

Awards and recognitions:-In 1997, Dharmendra won a Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Indian Cinema over many years. While receiving the award from Dilip Kumar and his wife, Delawar Khan grew emotional and remarked that he never received any Filmfare award in the "Best Actor" category despite having worked in so many successful films -- nearly a hundred popular movies. He was glad that his contributions had finally been recognized. Speaking on the occasion Dilip Kumar commenting on the legendry handsome facial features of Dharmendra had said,"Whenever I get to meet with God Almighty I will set before him my only complaint-why did You not make me as handsome as Dharmendra?"
He is a recipient of the prestigious Living Legend Award by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Indian entertainment industry. [3]
In 2003, Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sansui Viewers' Choice Movie Awards [4]

In 2007, Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) [7]
